Keep Going, Sunshine: The Three Words That Changed My Life

Sometimes the advice that changes your life comes in just three words.

When I first moved to LA, I was turned down by the top 10 commercial agents…

I was told I was too tall, there was too much competition, and my favorite:

“They already had someone exactly like me.”

Really? I’m sure she’s a blast at parties.

I cried in my car on the 101 freeway

Truth be told…

I’ve cried on every freeway in Los Angeles.

Then my biggest cheerleader and emotional support, my father, passed away.

The last three words he left on my answering machine (yes, it was the ’90s) were:

“Keep going, Sunshine.” 💛💛💛

And that’s exactly what I learned to do.

I know what it feels like to question yourself…
…to question your path…
…and wonder if it’s ever going to happen for you.

But here’s what I’ve also discovered…

Your slow season doesn’t mean it’s over. It may be a very important period of growth that’s quietly preparing you for everything that’s coming next.

80+ TV & Film credits…
100+ commercials…
1,000+ voice overs…

And now a starring role in the Emmy-nominated Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat later…

I can tell you this:

Your current circumstances don’t determine your future…
unless you let them define you.

Keep dreaming big.😍
Keep defying doubt…and other people’s opinions.😜
And no matter what…

Keep going, Sunshine. 💛💛💛

I’d love to hear your story.

What’s one piece of advice you’ll never forget?

  1. I think some of the best advice that changed my outlook was “don’t take rejection personally.” There are SO MANY reasons you don’t get a callback or get cast. It DOESN’T mean you are a bad actor or had a bad audition. Go in, have fun, and forget it. Do your job. It completely changed my attitude and outlook on the acting world and the business side.

  2. Best advice I received: You didn’t come to this career like anyone else, so your path isn’t going to look like anyone else’s. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else.
